- Watch a movie that you haven't seen (but NOT Dances with Wolves) and that covers a specific era or event in US History. Take a picture of yourself watching the film (send to my email) and write a 3/4 to one page review (1.5 spacing) of what you learned about this era from watching the film - be specific. I would prefer you watch films that are Civil War or before, but it you find one that covers a later period, that is fine. I am including a list of films here (but feel free to watch something recent that isn't on this list). Before watching any film, go on IMBD and make sure the film is rated 7.0 or higher on its ratings. Also, many of these are R rated - so check with parents to make sure that if you watch an R rated film, it is okay with them. If you watch it with AP friends, make sure to write your own response - but just send one picture (to my email).

Homework to be due on day of test (A day 11/15 and B day 11/18):
- Please fill out the following review sheet:
- docs.google.com/document/d/1fNMEZJMp79aI7cIBeg7agujd8l1_CYjQytVIU_9Fnkg/edit?usp=sharing
Homework Due on Tuesday and Wednesday:
- Using the test study guide that I posted earlier - make a quizlet or flashcard set for at least 15-20 terms. You may have to get creative to make these useful since the bullets are often vague or too general to be a useful flashcard. For example, if one of the bullets says "know key Native Americans who fought the US between 1800-1840" your flashcards might be: Tecumseh, Black Hawk, Osceola, etc. OR, if one bullet is a vague comment about the Constitutional Convention, try to figure out how to make a flashcard that is usable, such as "the Great Compromise" or "Compromises over slavery in Constitution" or "how does Constitution promote democracy?" or "undemocratic elements of Constitution". Work together or alone, but try to get 15-20 useful cards on paper or in a quizlet.
Homework Due on Friday and Monday:
- Finish notes on 13
- Take notes on first half of 13
- Here is the review sheet for unit 2 exam (which we will take after we finish chapter 13):
- drive.google.com/file/d/1uhdKJ2R87Dh61TZsTbTmN-OGc-5j1U55/view?usp=sharing
- Pay for you AP test OR apply for the scholarship
Homework Due on Monday and Tuesday:
- Finish notes on 12 (if we don't watch this in class, also watch the Crash Course on the War of 1812):
Homework Due on Wednesday and Thursday:
- First half of 12 (up to The So-Called Era of Good Feelings)
Homework Due on Monday and Tuesday(or, first day back):
- Finish chapter 11
- watch and take a few notes on: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3Ox6vGteek
- First half of 11
- Second half of Chapter 10 due
- Notes on first half of Chapter 10
- Annotate primary source packet. There is a quiz on these readings - so make sure to get main arguments being made in each reading.
- Finish notes on Chapter 9
- Take notes on first half of 9
Homework Due on Friday and Monday:
- Finish notes on Chapter 8
- Notes on first half of Chapter 8
Homework Due on Monday and Tuesday:
- Study for Unit 1 test: 50 multiple choice questions and one LEQ. A hint about what the LEQ is going to be on can be found here (Watching this would be helpful):
- Here is the quizlet from class:
Homework Due on Thursday and Friday:
- Read all of chapter 7 and only take notes on bold terms - but read whole chapter
Homework Due on Tuesday and Wednesday:
- Write the following for the thesis you wrote in class:
- Write the contextualization -- it should be a few long sentences about what was happening in Europe or the Americas prior to and during colonization. Contextualization sets the stage for the thesis and gives some context as to what was happening in the world at that time.
- Add the thesis you already wrote
- Write out completely one body paragraph. It should be 6-8+ sentences (no less). It should start with a topic sentences that address the thesis in regards to one of the Colonial regions (i.e., New England, Middle, or Southern Colonies). You should use specific evidence and explain the significance of your evidence (e.g., House of Burgesses can be used to show how geographic or cultural factors lead to early democratic ideals). Try to get as much specific, thesis supporting evidence in your body paragraph.
- You DO NOT have to write any of the other body paragraphs or conclusion -- so, just two paragraphs total. Handwritten please.
Homework Due on Friday and Monday:
- Take chapter notes on all of chapter 6. It is a shorter chapter.

Homework Due on Friday for A-Day and Monday for B-day:
- Read the first five pages of the PDF file above from Crevecouer. We did a couple SOAPStone sheets with you earlier, and I am asking you to take notes on binder paper following the SOAPSTone model. S-Subject, O-Occasion (when, where, why did he write this?), A-Audience, P-Purpose (put at least 10 things in here that his letter tells us - example below), S-Speaker (who is he?), and T-Tone. An example for Purpose: at the end of page 2 and beginning of 3 he speaks of the Eastern Provinces being the unmixed descendants of Englishmen (he is talking about New England and the Puritans) and says that he commends them for their industry, love of letters, etc. In Purpose, you would write: He says the Puritan areas are all Anglo (English), but they have done well in harsh environment, and have supported learning (e.g. Harvard). Again, have about 10 different things in Purpose that he is observing/asserting/insinuating about the American colonies.
Homework Due on Friday and Tuesday:
- Finish the Howard Zinn chapter and questions. You can print them or share your document with me via email ([email protected]). If you choose to print it, please have it printed before coming into class
- Also, please watch the video below (CrashCourse on American Colonization) - write down 10 things from the video (these can be anything; a fact, a joke, a picture used, something you learned, an observation from the video, etc.).
Homework Due on Wednesday and Thursday:
- Read Chapter 2 of Howard Zinn's book (link below). The chapter is titled "The Color Line". While you read the chapter, answer the questions on the Google Doc that I have linked below (you can print it out and write them, or type and print out later). Questions 1-6 are due next class (but feel free to finish if you are able - the rest will be due the following class). Your answers should be complete sentences and each question should have approx. a 3-5 sentence answer.

Homework Due on Monday and Tuesday:
- Take notes on the rest of Chapter Five
Homework Due on Thursday and Friday:
- Take notes on the first half of Chapter Five
Homework Due on Tuesday and Wednesday:
- Finish notes on the Charles Mann youtube video
Homework Due on Friday for A-Day and Monday for B-day:
- Go to the youtube page linked below and complete the following task:
- take notes in your notebook (or on a separate sheet if you don't want to interrupt your book notes) on the first 30-40 minutes of Charles Mann's lecture. I often quiz on these assignments and I often let you use your notes, so take decent notes (not every word - just main ideas) on his lecture. If you want to finish, feel free, the second half will be assigned next class.
